911 Crew Cab Transmission Page Short history on the transmission. The 911 trans that came in the car was pretty noisy. Almost every gear had a nice whine to it. When I installed the new engine in November, 2007, the trans got really noisey. I drove it maybe 300 miles with the new engine before the trans grenaded. After pulling the engine and trans out again, I took both the old and the newly acquired transmissions down to a friend's Porsche shop. My hope was to take all the good parts from both to make one good one. Surprise surprise, there were very few good parts in either trans! A few weeks later, my new trans is ready. Coincidentally, my new thinner wallet arrived too. These are NOT VW prices! More to come. . .
