944 Rear Disc Brake Conversion Page I scored these at the local junkyard. These were pretty complete, just missing the rotors and 2 brake pad pins. In this pic the trailing arm is in it's fitted angle. You can instantly tell that it is the same as a VW Bug IRS! The difference? The stub axle uses a VW Bus cv joint. Everything else is interchangeable. This is after sandblasting, cleaning, priming, and painting. The mounts are made from aluminum and replace the standard wheel seal mountings. The rear hubs look similar to Type III rears, but these are Porsche bolt pattern. Here's the caliper carriers and brackets. These had almost no rust on them and came out great after sandblasting. These are the calipers! They are so tiny. Seems funny that they would be so small and still be vented. Here's the new brake rotors. On the inside of the rotor, you can see the area where the emergency brake shoes fit. Here's the calipers together with the brackets and carriers, ready to install. Here's the whole assembly, ready to mount in my Crew Cab. Next is stainless braided brake hoses, new metal brake lines, and a redesign of the front brakes! More to come. . . |
