VolksDragon's Wheel Page

The dreaded wheel page. The listees claim rank on tires and wheels almost daily. I have nothing to contribute to the fight for who has the best. I have tried several on my Syncro, and several more on the Crew Cab. I have definitely learned a few things about what works for me.

944 Phone Dials

These are Porsche 944 Phone Dial wheels. They are 15x7, ET 52.3! Yes, the offset is substantial. But with the 1.200" thick adapters (5 on 112 to 5 on 130mm pattern) and a wheel spacer, I now have something close to ET15. For reference, I spaced the wheels out as far as possible without blocking the sliding door. The door just barely scrapes the tire.

Although the pictures show the stock mudflaps on the car, the fronts seriously interfere with the 30x9.5R15 BFG Mud Terrains. The front fenders eventually bent out of the way just before I cut them off. I saved the pieces 'cuz I plan on replacing them soon. The rears are still on for the moment. They seem to clear except in the most articulated positions with a full load, which is rare.

Porsche Cookie Cutters

Below is one of many Passat steel wheels. There are diameters of 15" and 16" available, widths from 6" to 7 1/2", and offsets from ET37 to ET52.

I have run a few of these on my Syncro. The first set was off a 98-2001 Passat, 15x6, ET43. These were fine with my Kumho Futura Dakota 215/75R15 tires (see pic on main page). I tried to run 235/75R15 but they rubbed on the upper control arms in front and the rear trailing arms. I found a set of 2001 1/2-2005 Passat steel wheels. These are identical to the earlier set, but they have an ET of 37.

Passat steel wheels

The Audi Q7 alloys started as more of a joke. A friend had a set that had been used as 'curb feelers' that he gave me. I thought it might be funny to put them on my syncro to pimp it out for the street! I have to try a set of tires on these to see if they fit and work.
